Football VS Soccer

Football and Soccer are two big fall sports. People in high school have always argued which one is better and which one people should play. Both sports require a high amount of skill and dedication to it. Soccer is harder to play because it requires a lot of foot technique and agility. Where football requires both strength and agility. In both sports, cardio is a big factor because you need the endurance to achieve your goals. Playing either sport you need knowledge of the game as well.

Football is more exciting to watch than soccer because more goes on. In football you have 11 guys on the field that need to do their job  so the work gets done so you can win. Even if one guy messes up their job they can mess up the entire play in dire situations. Offense and defense and even special teams all need to work together so that the team may win the game. Soccer you really only need a good goalie and 1 or 2 good midfielders that have great footwork and endurance.

Having personal experience playing football sways my opinion. When you ask most people though they prefer to watch football because it is more exciting. The argument will always be there though and football will always remain my number one favorite sport. The scoring system is different as well. When you play football you try and get touchdowns but in soccer you try to score a goal only worth 1 point whereas a touchdown is worth 6.

I will have to disagree. We live in the ONLY country where AMERICAN football is a big sport. The FIFA world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. 32 national teams competed in the main event in 2014, which is equal to the ENTIRE NFL. Lead alone all of the club leagues there are. The Premier League which is in the U.K. has 92 teams participating every year and there are A LOT more leagues in many other countries. Just because we live in a the ONLY country that has AMERICAN football leagues, you cannot let that cloud your judgement. Also FIFA is life.

Thank you for the constructive criticism. I am not doubting that soccer is not a popular sport or that millions of people enjoy watching the sport. This is an opinion based essay with my ideas. I enjoyed reading your comments because of the emotion you put behind it and I feel as though you might watch it now and then. I do like football way more than soccer not only on the professional level but in high school and NCAA leagues as well. I will take what you said and hopefully it will broaden my opinion but I truly doubt it.

I really liked this post because it presents a good argument, but it is clearly opinion based. There will always be controversy because everyone has their own opinion. If you played soccer do you think you opinion would change? It is also untrue that most people prefer football over soccer because you have taken a biased survey because you probably only talk to people that have the same interests as you. This was a really good post, but I would leave the facts and take out your opinion.

This is a great post that creates a lot of discussion. If you took a world survey over which sport is more exciting do you think football would win? It clearly states your opinion on football and how you feel about the sport, but does everyone feel the same way?

Thanks for sharing your opinion but I have to ask why you believe a team only needs 2 good midfielders? Don’t you think that the players who have to play the whole field will get tired and need a break? What happens when those 2 players get substituted? The goalie can’t do it on his own! A soccer team requires a team full of good players, even though skill may vary, a team can’t rely on 2 players!

Good post! I was curious as to why you would say soccer is harder than American Football. Did you take the mental difficulty of football into account?

Don’t you think the mental difficulty in soccer is just as hard? Soccer players have to read the field and know how to make the proper decisions to create scoring opportunities. Soccer is underrated by football players and deserves more credit because it’s very skills base and requires a lot of “soccer IQ”. – LEB

I feel like this post should be broader than just the United States because of how big Soccer is around the world. The post also seems to be really one sided due to the your personal experience with Football and it could use more information towards the Soccer side.

I feel you should of had more research behind soccer and maybe some research behind why you think soccer is harder mentally, but it was a very good post overall!
