Our Namesake

Bartlett’s usually comes to mind when I think quotations, but it was Camp’s Unfamiliar Quotations from 2000 B.C. to the Present that introduced me to the George Bernard Shaw quote for which this site is named.

In this age of media ubiquity when any thought can be published to the masses, Shaw’s quote offers a reminder that the number of characters used to transmit the message isn’t as important as having something worth communicating.

“My method is to take the utmost trouble to find the right thing to say, and then to say it with the utmost levity.”

George Bernard Shaw

It is my hope that whether a student-author publishes an “Assumption” (writing that advances a position or informs) or a “Shenanigan” (writing that plays with content and purpose) that our readers will find they’ve taken “the utmost trouble to find the right thing to say”.
