Playing video games has rules the lives of many, for hundreds of years. Since society first put their eyes on a gaming console back in 1967, to the most recent release of the PS4, gaming consoles have yet to stop evolving. If you are like me, video consoles like Atari and Super Nintendo were something you parents reminisced about, and certainly not something you’ve played. Now in this current day, you have the choice, Xbox, WII, PlayStation, and not only that but the different types. For instance, Xbox, Xbox 306, Xbox One, PS2, PS3, PS4, and so on. Not only have the consoles changed, but the graphics, from unrealistic flying balls, to life like soldiers in the middle of a battle.
With these abundant features and different consoles, comes the downside of video games. Playing video games has become quite an expensive hobby. Often with new consoles comes new games, console specific. As if the consoles weren’t enough of a money pit, now you have to come out with different games too? So you purchase the Xbox 360, and three months later they come out with the Xbox One. Now not only do you have to purchase the console, but also by the console specific games. Granted most games will work on the new consoles, but all the new features of the console won’t go into effect. So now you have to ask yourself, what is the purpose of buying an new console, if you don’t buy the new games?
To break away from that side tangent, most commonly known as a rant. I go back to my original point, of the evolution of gaming consoles. So many things have changed, since he debut back in 1967. From big bulky consoles, that contain less than a handful of simplistic games, to wi-fi compatible, wireless, and sensor consoles. Containing breathtaking graphics, and 3- dimensional characters. In this evolution, you see a change in size and shape of consoles, the change in controllers from cord restraining ones, to wireless ones. As well as a change from pre loaded games on consoles, to a variety of games on cartridges, to games on discs, also on the internet. You see a dramatic change in capabilities, user friendliness, and a dramatic increase in price on these gaming consoles.
Gaming consoles have revolutionized at the same speed as technology, as more graphics, capabilities, and luxuries are discovered with technology. These same concepts are introduced to these gaming consoles, changing the true purpose of gaming in our society.
