How often do you listen to music? How do you feel when you listen to music? Why do you listen to music? Most people answer these three questions as “every day”, “happy and relaxed”, and “to get away for things or concentrate”. These answers are all so true and common. Music is an art. It’s how people express themselves, how people celebrate holidays or special events, and how people share stories. It’s how people live.
Music is such an important part of everyone’s life. The world revolves around music. It assists in therapy, artistic expression, communicating feelings and so much more. People do not realize how much music affects their lives. Music especially affects a person’s mood. When a person is in a bad mood and they hear happy, upbeat music, they are more likely to adopt that mood and forget that they were ever in a bad mood. Same if someone is stressed, just listen to some relaxing music and your stress will hopefully melt away.
There are many different types of music genres that are perceived with different moods.
- Country: Usually lowers your spirit
- Pop: Makes you in the mood for dancing and partying.
- Classical: More towards relaxing.
- Traditional folktale: More for the adventurous mood.
- Blues: For the sad and depressing mood.
- Punk and Rock: Creates an adrenaline and energy boost.
- Reggae: For the laid back and sitting around all day type of mood.
- Heavy Metal: Makes a person mad or angry and violent.
- Rap: Moods can vary depending on the lyrics
- Broadway: Creates inspiration and creativity.
- Love Songs: Gets you in the lovey and cuddly mood.
There are more genres that can share the same moods as the ones listed above, but these are the main genres.
It is also known that some stores and parks will play specific genres to put people in a certain mood so that they will spend more money or be more adventurous; and that is just one of the six senses they use. So as you can see, music has a huge impact on everyone’s lives, even if they don’t think it does. People might not realize their mood is changing when listening to music, or just the opposite can happen where people are aware that their mood is changing but they do not know why. Usually this is because the music is in the background and do not realize there is music being played. Music affects a person’s mood, not just consciously, but also subconsciously.
