I love to go ice fishing. It is a very nice and calm thing to do on the weekends. When I go fishing I go with my dad and we get up at about 5 o’clock in the morning so that we can get a good spot on the ice. We go all over to go ice fishing some times we go to Monmouth or up by our camp or Sabattus Lake. Up by our camp there is very good ice fishing up there. We mostly catch Salmon and tog up at camp. Tog is a fish that sits at the bottom of the lake /pond and eats vegetation and other insects and stuff that live down at the bottom of the lake/pond. We are out all day long it is a lot of fun to be out there with my dad and just spend time with him. Usually my dad and I go out fishing on Sunday because we are always working on the camp or at the tree farm.
This winter has been a very good winter so far for ice fishing. There is not a lot of snow on the lakes, so theres less material we have to take off the lakes and ponds so we can use our auger and not get the hole filled with snow and ice. I cant wait for February vacation because my dad wants to go ice fishing almost everyday. I can only catch fish when I am ice fishing. I can never catch a fish just regularly fishing it just doesn’t work for me at all. It is very funny to watch me ice fish because I’m away making jokes and laughing but when I’m regular fishing look out because I’m mad because I can’t catch any. Ice Fishing is just something different, it just comes so natural to me. I know what I’m doing and what I can problem solve. I love going out on the ice on a cold day and just being out there and watching my traps blow around and having to go out and check my holes every 20 minutes because the hole have frozen over. If is a good thing that the holes freeze over because that’s how I know they are biting and that’s when I know its going to be a great day of fishing. I hope that this weather turns cold so that I can get out on the ice and do some more fishing. With this warm weather I don’t really wanna risk my life to go out and fish.
