Mythology, a highly relevant topic in most aspects, if not all.

Thomas C. Foster gives a few examples of literature influenced by mythology, such as Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan, The Iliad, Daedalus and Icarus, and a few more. He even talks about how there were school teams in his state named after Romulus, Remus, Rome, The Spartans, The Trojans, and more. All of those influenced by a story that was influenced by mythology.

Mythology from every religion has affected the world to this very day. We have towns and cities named from mythology. Athens, for example, was named after Athena; the Greek goddess of war, handicraft, and practical reason. High school students read books based off of mythology, mainly Greek or Roman mythology. We have fantasy series based off of mythology, think Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, or The Kane Chronicles both by Rick Riordan.

My Example:

Gladiator- This movie depicts the elements of Roman entertainment, and its effects on society. Gladiator fights were very popular, and brought together many people. Occasionally they would sacrifice people during matches. Victors would become very rich and popular the further they got as it took a toll on their bodies. Thomas Foster also depicts the use of sports teams using names like The Trojans or The Spartans, which is similar to gladiators, (loosely), in the aspect of entertainment among spectators. In society today, whether through movies or sports, Greek influence still lingers.

Mythology is still very relevant even in a modernized world. Mythology has to do with a ton of modern brand names and car vehicle names.  The modern world is very rich with mythology.  Modern brand names include Pandora (this brand is jewelry, and gets it's name from the first mortal woman in Greek mythology- her name meant all-gifted), Dove (The skincare/personal care brand- named after one of the symbols of Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty), and Nike (the sportswear company- named after the Greek Goddess of victory).  Car vehicle names include the Buick Apollo, the Honda Odyssey, and even the Nissan Titan.
