In the Ted Talk sahaj kaur kohli (why children of immigrants experience guilt) is about immigrant children with mental health problems maybe they are experiencing guilt from leaving their families behind. This also talks about strategies to help cope with these mental health problems and come to peace with them.” There’s also this sense of a thriver’s guilt or this guilt of growing, healing, accessing resources and opportunities that maybe our parents didn't have or our family and other parts of the world don't have access to.”(32 sec kohli).

In the book Call me American by Abdi Nor Iftin he has finally made it to America and is having a hard time surviving and making money he survives off his friends and his small jobs. He finds it hard to do daily activities due to discrimination. “I didn't want the life my parents wanted for me. I wasn't going to spend all my life in a mosque.”(Iftin pg 102).

In my Novel "home is not a country" Nima has wanted to become the girl that she made up. Yasmeen is a girl that is intouch with her culture and her life. Nima Made her up to escape the reality of her true self. Aisha Nima's mother wanted a better life for her baby, she was depressed when there father died and Nima had to deal with how her mother is acting. Nima wanted a life like Yasmeen, who had a father, who was in touch with herself and her culture. “In my silence I dress myself in yellow & imagine a garden thick with palms, a girl, mouth open & fluent, who knows where she is from” (pg. 11).

In the book, Out of Nowhere, by Maria Padian, Tom Bouchard is a captain of the soccer team and leader off the field as well. Tom is a smart and talented student and helps in school leadership programs. When Tom is encouraged into vandalizing a rock at their soccer team's rival high school he has to face the consequences and risk his leadership reputation. Tom has to complete one hundred hours of community service teaching Somalians. After spending time teaching and learning Somalian culture, Tom releases their struggles and starts being a better person towards them showing that he cares unlike the automatic bias of most Americans. Tom becomes a better person through these struggles and even sticks up for Somalian culture often correcting his friend about what they wear and what they eat.  "I wasn't going to listen to this crap from my uncle anymore. I'm sorry what? Paul wore a stunned expression --- "Don't start running the Somalis down. Its bullshit, Uncle Paul." (Padian, 314). Tom does not align with his uncles views and wants to have a different view on immigrants coming into their country after learning about their culture and ways. Saeed opened Tom's view more to the other side and Tom is not like his Uncle, who is too stubborn to open himself up to something different.
